Southwest Christian Church is a church committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ. We recognize the Bible as the revealed word of God; describing His actions, mankind’s sin, and the redemption of God’s people to His great glory.

OUR BELIEFS
Concerning the Scriptures
- We believe the 66 books of the Bible to be the perfect and inerrant Word of God. The Bible is absolutely true because of its source. God the Holy Spirit spoke through the authors of the books, thus the words that are contained within Scripture are the very Words of God. II Timothy 3:16, II Peter 1:19-21
- We believe Scripture, being the Word of God, is authoritative for mankind in all matters of faith and life. Psalm 119
- We believe all miracles in the Bible to be accurate and true, including creation as the literal six days as written in Genesis. Genesis 1-2, Psalm 77:14
- We believe the canon of Scripture is closed; complete and sufficient. We reject any writings claiming to be Scripture that are not contained within the 66 books of the Bible. Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 18:20-22, Revelation 22:18-19
Concerning God
- We believe there is only one living and true God. He is eternal and absolutely perfect and sovereign. He decrees all things from the foundation of time. Deuteronomy 6:4, Psalm 115:3, Jeremiah 4:28
- We believe God exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of the persons of the Trinity are unique yet share in being one God (for example, Jesus died on the cross, not the Father). Luke 3:21-22, Matthew 28:19, John 14:26
- We believe God is a jealous God and is to be worshipped. There are no true gods or religions outside of Him. We reject any movement or religion that promotes a way to God outside of the way He has revealed in Scripture. Exodus 20:4-6, Deuteronomy 5:8-10
- We believe God is eternal and transcendent. He is the Creator and not created. He has no beginning or end. Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalm 90:2, John 1:1-2
- We believe God, as Creator, has authority over all things, physical and spiritual, including man, Satan, and his demons. Job 1-2, Psalm 8:6, Matthew 28:18, Luke 10:17, Colossians 1:16-17
- We believe God the Father works according to His own good and perfect purposes. He has decreed for all things to happen for His glory. His Fatherhood is seen in His role within the Trinity and mankind. Isaiah 42:8, I Corinthians 8:6
- We believe God the Father is Creator of all mankind, but the spiritual Father only to believers. He saves only those who come to Him through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:14-17, Romans 8:28-29, Ephesians 1:13-14
- We believe the Father is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption. We reject any form of open-theism which proposes that God is powerless or unknowing regarding the future, man, the human will and creation. Genesis 1-2, Genesis 50:20, Psalm 115:3, John 10:29, Titus 1:1-2
- We believe Jesus is God the Son. Jesus, like the Father, is eternal. We reject any teaching that claims Jesus was created by the Father in the same way angels and man were created. John 1:1-4, Colossians 2:9
- We believe Jesus is the Promised Messiah, sent from the Father, to redeem God's people. Jesus is the co-creator of all things. Jesus is the second member of the Trinity, fully man and fully God. Matthew 1:21, John 6:38-40, Colossians 1:15-19
- We believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary as recorded in Scripture. He lived a perfect and sinless life. Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2
- We believe after three years of earthly ministry in teaching, preaching, and healing, Jesus was then crucified on a cross. His death on the cross to save a people was part of God’s sovereign plan from before the foundation of time. Acts 4:24-30, Revelation 13:8
- We believe Jesus, in the flesh, was physically raised from the dead after spending three days in the grave, thus demonstrating the Father’s acceptance of Christ’s death. We reject any teaching that denies Jesus’ death on the cross or His physical resurrection. I Corinthians 15:3-7
- We believe the death of Christ satisfied the requirements of wrath against God’s people, thus bringing reconciliation between God and His people. There is no other means to receive salvation apart from Christ. John 10:1-10, John 10:24-30, John 14:6, I Corinthians 15:3-7, Romans 5:6-10
- We believe the Holy Spirit, like God the Father and God Son, is eternal. The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity and shares in the divine excellencies of the Godhead. Like the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit had part in creation. Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4
- We believe the Holy Spirit is sent to God's people from the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit converts and regenerates the heart of the sinner. He also gives understanding of spiritual things, which includes the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Ezekiel 37:13-14, John 14:26, I Corinthians 2:14
- We believe the Holy Spirit is instrumental in salvation, causing a person to be born again. He is also the seal and guarantee of salvation indwelling every believer. John 15:26, II Corinthians 5:5, Ephesians 1:13-14
- We believe the Holy Spirit functions as the builder of the Body of Christ by convicting sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment, then transforming believers into the image of Christ. Ezekiel 37:13-14, John 16:8, Romans 8:29
- We believe the Holy Spirit is the one who spoke through the prophets and the authors of the Bible. He spoke through them to assure what is written in Scripture is not the words of men, but of God. II Peter 1:20-21
- We believe the Holy Spirit grants believers gifts in different and unique ways for the purpose of redeeming the lost and edifying the Church; however, not all believers are granted the same gifts. I Corinthians 12
- We believe the Holy Spirit equips believer to pray to God the Father as He intercedes on their behalf. Romans 8:26-27
Concerning Man
- We believe from conception that man and woman were created by God, in the image of God, and originally free from sin. Genesis 1:26-27
- We believe that Adam acted on behalf of himself and all mankind. All people are born into sin with a corrupt nature from Adam and all people deserve death and God’s wrath. Genesis 8:21, Romans 3:23-25, Romans 5:12-21, Romans 6:23
- We believe all mankind is hopelessly lost and in need of the Savior, Christ Jesus. Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:10-18, Ephesians 2:1-3, Colossians 1:21
- We believe marriage is a God ordained union between one man and one woman. Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:24, Mark 10:6-9, Ephesians 5:22-33, I Timothy 3:2, I Timothy 3:12, Titus 1:6
- We believe because all mankind is created in the image of God, human life from conception is sacred, to be valued, and protected. Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5, Luke 1:41
Concerning Salvation
- We believe salvation is by Christ alone, not a result of man’s works. Philippians 1:6, Philippians 2:12-13, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:4-7
- We believe Christians are reconciled to God through the one-time offering of Christ and thus have been adopted as sons of God. Romans 8:15-17, Galatians 4:5-7, Ephesians 1:5, Hebrews 10:2-4, Hebrews 10:14, I Peter 3:18
- We believe the believer has no righteousness of his own, but requires the perfect righteousness of Christ to be imputed on his behalf. Isaiah 64:6, Matthew 3:15, Romans 5:19, II Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, Philippians 3:8-9
- We believe those who have been redeemed by Christ are guaranteed eternal life. John 3:16, John 5:24, John 10:28-29, Romans 8:38-39, Ephesians 1:13-14
Concerning The Church
- We believe the Church is made up of all born again believers in Christ who have been redeemed by His blood. God's church includes people from every nation, tribe, people and language throughout history. Genesis 12:1-3, John 3:3, I Corinthians 12:12, Revelation 7:9-10
- We believe Christ is the head of the church, which is His body. Ephesians 1:22-23, Ephesians 4:15-16, Ephesians 5:27, Colossians 1:18
- We believe the Church is holy, set apart by God to be salt and light in a lost and dying world. Matthew 5:13-16, Colossians 3:12-13, I Peter 2:9
- We believe the mission of the Church is to preach the gospel and make disciples of all people groups throughout the world. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, Romans 10:14-15, II Timothy 4:1-2
- We believe the Church exists to encourage believers and show the love of Christ to one another. Christians are encouraged by the affirmation of God’s truths to each other through study and teaching. John 13:34-35, Acts 2:42-47, Romans 15:7, I Thessalonians 5:11, I John 4:7-8
- We believe the mission of the local church is to edify the saints by supporting each other spiritually, emotionally, and financially. Acts 4:32-37, Romans 15:7, II Corinthians 8:1-5
- We believe the Church is to reflect the love of Christ to all people. Matthew 18:21-35, Luke 10:25-37, Galatians 6:10, Ephesians 5:1-2
- We believe the local church is to be governed by a plurality of elders. Elders are to be men who fulfill the qualifications as outlined within Scripture, oversee the spiritual condition of the congregation, and teach sound doctrine. Acts 14:23, I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, Hebrews 13:17, I Peter 5:1-5
Concerning Christians
- We believe all Christians are a part of the global Church and are to be engaged in fellowship with a local church for the purpose of further maturity, service and accountability to the elders of a congregation. Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:11-16, Hebrews 10:24-25, Hebrews 13:17, I Peter 5:1-5
- We believe a Christian is a person who has heard the gospel, believes it to be true, repents of their sin, and is born again by the Holy Spirit. The believer becomes a new creation, putting aside the old self, and desiring to please God through worship and obedience. Mark 1:15, John 3:3, John 3:16, Romans 6:17-19, Romans 10:8-17, II Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:22-24
- We believe Christians are to bear fruit as evidence of their conversion, including repentance, loving others, and praising God. I John 4:7-8, I John 5:1-2
- We believe Christians are to participate in the ordinances of baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. Acts 2:38-47, I Corinthians 11:23-30
- We believe that though one is justified by Christ's work on the cross, the process of sanctification and maturity continue during the believer's life on earth. Philippians 1:6
Concerning The Future
- We believe that Jesus Christ will come again to this earth visibly, physically, and in great power and glory. Matthew 24:30, II Thessalonians 1:7-10, Revelation 19:11-21
- We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the universal judgment for all, both the living and the dead. Believers will be found righteous in Christ, while unbelievers will be condemned for their sins. John 5:27, Hebrews 9:27, I Peter 4:5, II Peter 3:7, Revelation 20:11-15
- We believe Christians will receive new and glorified bodies for all eternity in Heaven. In Heaven Christians receive eternal joy in the physical presence of God. John 6:40, I Corinthians 15:35-57, I John 3:2, Revelation 21:3-4
- We believe Hell is a just reward earned for a person’s sin. Hell is where the unbeliever, Satan and his demons receive conscious torment for eternity after the final judgment. Matthew 25:41, Romans 6:23, Revelation 14:11, Revelation 20:10
- We believe the present heavens and earth will be destroyed, and God will create a new heaven and a new earth. Isaiah 65:17, II Thessalonians 1:9, II Peter 3:10, Revelation 21:1-8
