The good news

The gospel

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)

We believe the gospel is central to God’s eternal purpose to display his glory (Ephesians 3:7–11). So we orient our singing, preaching, and life together on Christ crucified and risen.

The word gospel means “good news.” Even though we have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory and deserve his just judgment, God is rich in mercy. He has sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to become truly human and to live a perfectly righteous life in our place, die a substitutionary death in the place of all who will trust in him, and rise again on the third day. By faith alone in his life, death, and resurrection, we turn from sin and self-righteousness to God, are forgiven, and receive the Spirit.

Scriptures that make these truths especially clear include John 3:16–21; John 6:25–40; Romans 3:19–28; Galatians 4:4–6; Ephesians 2:1–10; and Philippians 3:4–10.
